Deep drawn metal pressings

It is a shape transformation process, retaining the material. This process is considered as deep drawing, when the depth of the part exceeds its diameter. It can be made it through a series of dies. This process is known as reduction.

In major cases, the exact size of a component cannot be formed into shape after first reduction process. Until the exact size is achieved, the component undergoes a series of reduction cycles.

Process

Deep drawing is a forming process that occurs under the combination of tensile conditions. A flat sheet metal blank formed into a hollow body that opens one side or hollow body formed into a hollow body with a smaller cross-section.

In the automotive industry, deep drawing is usually carried out using rigid tools. These tools include die, punch, and binder.

Step 1: The plate holder closes when the blank metal sheet is inserted

Step 2: The sheet is clamped between binder and die

This process slows the sheet flow and also prevents wrinkles forming under the binder.

Work of punch – It stretches the sheet over the die radius and forms in the die. The force is vital for forming and is thereby increased up to the lower dead center of the punch.
